Schools Battery Recycling

Every year Rathlee NS recycles approximately 55kg of batteries. As a Green School working towards our 10 th Green Flag we are very aware that if batteries are not recycled the toxic materials within the batteries can be released into the environment and pose serious threats to human health and the environment.

As batteries contain cobalt, lithium and graphite these toxic materials can leak into the soil, which can then reach our water supply if disposed of in landfills.

Recycling batteries can also help conserve natural resources by creating a circular economy.

Recycling batteries also supports The Sustainable Development Goals 12 & 13.

Goal 12: Responsible Production & Consumption

Goal 13: Climate Action
