Our students proudly took part in the Easkey St. Patrick’s Day Parade. We celebrated our school's centenary year as we walked through the village. During Seachtain na Gaeilge, our senior classes have been learning some traditional céilí dances during PE. The pupils enjoyed practising Shoe the Donkey (Cur Crúb ar an Asal) and The Walls of Limerick (Ballaí Luimnigh) We were very lucky to have Mr. Neary accompanying us on the accordion as we danced. Everyone had great fun taking part! ☘️

As part of Seachtain na Gaeilge, Third and Fourth Class have been using their “Gaeilge eyes” to spot Irish in the world around them. The pupils looked carefully at their everyday environment and were delighted to discover so many examples of the Irish language all around us. Today we were delighted to welcome Helena Golden to our school for a fantastic basket-making workshop. Third and Fourth Class had the opportunity to work with Helena to create their own handmade willow baskets. It was fascinating to learn about this traditional Irish craft and the skills involved in weaving willow. We have been exploring Pop Art. We looked at the work of Burton Morris. We looked at some of his most popular work: "Pop!" and "Coffee". 3rd and 4th class were busy learning all about bia as Gaeilge. We practiced new vocabulary and useful phrases, wrote a pizza recipe and then put our learning into action by making our own pizzas. A fun and tasty way to bring our Gaeilge learning to life! 🍕

To celebrate St Brigid's Day we made these crosses by weaving with wool and creating colour patterns. We also read a lovely poem about St Brigid's crosses and learned about the traditions behind them.

In January, we read a poem about fireworks. We talked about exciting words to describe them and then we wrote our own verses from the firework's perspective. To bring the poem to life, we made 3D fireworks inspired by the poem, experimenting with different paper techniques.

Our 3rd–6th class students enjoyed using LEGO Spike kits this month as they explored programming and engineering concepts. They designed and built a variety of models and then wrote code to make them move and respond using motors and sensors. They also learned how to debug their code by testing, identifying errors, and making improvements when things didn’t work as planned. 3rd and 4th class made these beautiful winter woolly hats. We carefully used the paper weaving method to create colourful patterns.

3rd - 6th class pupils recently completed a brilliant 6-week multi-sports programme with Youth Sport West to promote increased participation in sport and physical activity. The children enjoyed basketball, athletics and olympic handball - building their skills, confidence and teamwork, all while having fun. 1st - 4th classes had a wonderful trip on Tuesday to see ‘Glitchmas’ in the Hawkswell Theatre in Sligo. Thank you to Niamh McGrath and Orla McSharry who generously made time to take a photo with us after the performance. Thank you also to the entire cast and crew for a wonderful show.

We had an exciting day in Rathlee NS as our 3rd–6th class pupils proudly showcased their projects for our Science Fair, held as part of Science Week 2025. The event gave pupils the opportunity to become real scientists - investigating, experimenting, and sharing their discoveries with others. Each class began by presenting their experiments in their own classroom. Pupils demonstrated their work, explained the scientific ideas behind it, and answered questions from their peers

We had an exciting Maths Week in 3rd and 4th class! We played lots of maths games on the iPads. We enjoyed playing dice games too. We used our maths eyes to see maths in everyday things and talked about how maths is all around us. This helped us realise that maths is everywhere! One of the highlights of the week was the daily maths riddles. Some of them were tricky, but we loved figuring them out together!

This month 3rd and 4th class explored the strand of Construction in Visual Arts - and the results were spooktacular ! Focusing on line and shape, we made unique 3D pumpkins and Halloween lanterns. We also worked as a team to build a giant spider using recycled materials. We are very proud of all our creepy creations! 🎃 🕷️

In Science, 3rd and 4th class carried out an exciting experiment to explore the effects of different drinks on our teeth. Since eggshells are similar in composition to tooth enamel, we used them to test our question: Which drinks damage our teeth? We placed eggs in six different liquids—fizzy drink, milk, orange juice, MiWadi, water, and an energy drink—and left them for a week. The results were eye-opening! We had a lovely time exploring the sea shore today. We discovered lots of little crustaceans and various types of seaweed. We also covered a little local history on the way there!

1st - 4th classes had a super, fun filled day at the Let’s Go multi activity camp at Sligo ATU today.

The weather didn't get in the way as we had a thoroughly enjoyable Sports Day with lots of fun team games and activities. We are very lucky to have our yard, pitch and soft play area for these days.

Well done to our boys team on winning the Sligo Cuman Na mBunsol gaelic football shield final. We defeated Monasteraden NS in a closely fought battle, on a wet evening that could have gone either way. The boys and girls teams in our school have great potential. Busy Bees! We had a great day with Peter Neary where we learned all about our native bees and the wonders of how honey is produced. It was fascinating.

We were delighted to welcome back Taragh Cosgrave from Edible Landscapes. Our 3rd and 4th classes weeded around our existing herbs and apple tree. They also planted lemon balm, honey berry and strawberry plants. We can't wait to sample the fruits of our labour!

Our Lorg Na Scealaiochta story telling trail took place in Kilglass Woods. The event was the culmination of two years of creative endeavours by our local schools. From puppet making to story writing, the Creative Cluster has been a fantastic success and a source of creative inspiration to the children in our school.

Our school currently has an art piece on loan from the Glucksman Exhibition. We are delighted to be involved with this creative initiative which is supported by the Arts Council. It has been a great stimulus and inspiration for the childrens' artistic activities.

All roads lead to Rathlee on Friday June 13th for our annual 5k fundraiser for our school. It is always a fun evening and is a great way for everyone in our school community to get together. See you all there!

Well done to our 4th, 5th and 6th class boys and girls who played against Curry NS. Both teams worked really hard in lovely, sunny conditions. Training continues every Monday after school.

The weather has been fantastic this week. We were able to transplant our peas and beans to our raised beds. We will be busy weeding and watering for the next few weeks!

The weather has been glorious the last couple of weeks and we have been on our school pitch practising our skills regularly. We have training every Monday after school and GAA coach John works with each class on Thursdays. We are really grateful to have such fantastic facilities.

Bonjour! Our 3rd - 6th class children have just completed a very enjoyable and useful series of French lessons with tutor Brendan Doyle.

We were delighted to participate in the Easkey St. Patrick's Day Parade. The children dressed up in environmental themed costumes and played their tin-whistles. Thank you to all who took part and all the staff in our school who helped on the day.

3rd and 4th class celebrated World Book Day by joining renowned author Anthony Garvey for a very enjoyable live book reading. Anthony talked about his life as an author and gave fantastic encouragement to the children.

Well done to our boys and girls teams who performed very well in the Cuman na mBunscol Amigos gaelic footballl skills competition held at Enniscrone GAA club.

At break we took some photos. We were very excited to spot a small nest in a tree in the front yard. We painted some lovely spring flowers in our art class.

3rd - 6th class had a very enjoyable day of creative writing with Pierina and Emily. Both classes used their imaginations to develop exciting food themed stories based in our local area!

We are really excited to be hosting our annual Enrolment Evening on Tuesday January 28th. We are really looking forward to meeting the children and parents in our community as they take the first step in their primary school education.

Thank you to the Parents Association who have organised the plastic bottle return bin as a fundraiser for the school. They have kindly undertaken to empty the bin on a regular basis. The Greenschools Committee are grateful for this initiative as we work towards our 10th Green flag. This scheme will raise funds for our school, reduce litter in our area and protect our environment. 3rd - 6th classes went to Ballina on Friday for a historical treasure hunt of the town. We learned about Ballina's role in a number of important events in our history and we all had a very enjoyable day.
