St Patrick's Day Parade
Our students proudly took part in the Easkey St. Patrick’s Day Parade. We celebrated our school's centenary year as we walked through the village. Céilí Dancing
During Seachtain na Gaeilge, our senior classes have been learning some traditional céilí dances during PE. The pupils enjoyed practising Shoe the Donkey (Cur Crúb ar an Asal) and The Walls of Limerick (Ballaí Luimnigh) We were very lucky to have Mr. Neary accompanying us on the accordion as we danced. Gaeilge timpeall orainn
As part of Seachtain na Gaeilge, Third and Fourth Class have been using their “Gaeilge eyes” to spot Irish in the world around them. The pupils looked carefully at their everyday environment and were delighted to discover so many examples of the Irish language all around us. The pupils took photos of their discoveries, which they were very proud to share. Well done to everyone for their great enthusiasm and keen observation skills!

Basket-Making Workshop
Today we were delighted to welcome Helena Golden to our school for a fantastic basket-making workshop. Third and Fourth Class had the opportunity to work with Helena to create their own handmade willow baskets. It was fascinating to learn about this traditional Irish craft and the skills involved in weaving willow. Pop Art
We have been exploring Pop Art. We looked at the work of Burton Morris. We looked at some of his most popular work: "Pop!" and "Coffee". 3rd and 4th class were busy learning all about bia as Gaeilge. We practiced new vocabulary and useful phrases, wrote a pizza recipe and then put our learning into action by making our own pizzas. A fun and tasty way to bring our Gaeilge learning to life! 🍕

St Brigid's Crosses
To celebrate St Brigid's Day we made these crosses by weaving with wool and creating colour patterns. We also read a lovely poem about St Brigid's crosses and learned about the traditions behind them.

Fireworks!
In January, we read a poem about fireworks. We talked about exciting words to describe them and then we wrote our own verses from the firework's perspective. To bring the poem to life, we made 3D fireworks inspired by the poem, experimenting with different paper techniques.

LEGO Spike Kits
Our 3rd–6th class students enjoyed using LEGO Spike kits this month as they explored programming and engineering concepts. They designed and built a variety of models and then wrote code to make them move and respond using motors and sensors. They also learned how to debug their code by testing, identifying errors, and making improvements when things didn’t work as planned. 3rd and 4th class made these beautiful winter woolly hats. We carefully used the paper weaving method to create colourful patterns.

Youth Sport West programme
3rd - 6th class pupils recently completed a brilliant 6-week multi-sports programme with Youth Sport West to promote increased participation in sport and physical activity. The children enjoyed basketball, athletics and olympic handball - building their skills, confidence and teamwork, all while having fun. Huge thank you to our coach Bernie for her expertise and encouragement.

Hawkswell Theatre Trip
1st - 4th classes had a wonderful trip on Tuesday to see ‘Glitchmas’ in the Hawkswell Theatre in Sligo. Thank you to Niamh McGrath and Orla McSharry who generously made time to take a photo with us after the performance. Thank you also to the entire cast and crew for a wonderful show.

We had an exciting day in Rathlee NS as our 3rd–6th class pupils proudly showcased their projects for our Science Fair, held as part of Science Week 2025. The event gave pupils the opportunity to become real scientists - investigating, experimenting, and sharing their discoveries with others. Each class began by presenting their experiments in their own classroom. Pupils demonstrated their work, explained the scientific ideas behind it, and answered questions from their peers

Maths Week 2025 in 3rd and 4th Class
We had an exciting Maths Week in 3rd and 4th class! We played lots of maths games on the iPads. We enjoyed playing dice games too. We used our maths eyes to see maths in everyday things and talked about how maths is all around us. This helped us realise that maths is everywhere! One of the highlights of the week was the daily maths riddles. Some of them were tricky, but we loved figuring them out together!

Oíche Shamhna
This month 3rd and 4th class explored the strand of Construction in Visual Arts - and the results were spooktacular ! Focusing on line and shape, we made unique 3D pumpkins and Halloween lanterns. We also worked as a team to build a giant spider using recycled materials. We are very proud of all our creepy creations! 🎃 🕷️

Our Eye-Opening Eggshell Experiment!
In Science, 3rd and 4th class carried out an exciting experiment to explore the effects of different drinks on our teeth. Since eggshells are similar in composition to tooth enamel, we used them to test our question: Which drinks damage our teeth? We placed eggs in six different liquids—fizzy drink, milk, orange juice, MiWadi, water, and an energy drink—and left them for a week. The results were eye-opening!
